Foul Play is here! Thanks to the support of Hedgemaze Mail patrons, you can now sew chaos as a mischievous goose in this card-based role-playing game. Join Chonky, Phony, Shifty, and Rowdy and wreak havoc amongst humans in pursuit of some juicy treasure. The game is out now on the Hedgemaze store! You can also download this print-and-play version for free on itch.
Extended release
Hendrik and I would love to expand in this quirky little game with extra materials, modules, and more—but in order for any of that to happen we need your support. If you like what you see and are curious on where we can take this card-based format, please support the game! Whether that’s donating on itch, purchasing a copy on the shop, signing up to the patreon, or just telling your friends if you’re short on cash; anything helps really :-)
In case you missed it…
I’m now on youtube!
Though I’m still promoting my work on platforms like instagram and tiktok, I was craving a space to be able to do more long-form formats, so here it is! I definitely will try to do something on how to play Foul Play, and there’s a whole video on the works where my mom rates a bunch of games I own (lol).
To nobody’s surprise, video editing is quite the time commitment, but I’ll be trying to put something out whenever I’m able—it’s way more engaging than just instagram, after all; I feel just that extra handle of creative expression you get here gets my wheels oiled.
I guested on the Dice Exploder podcast!
Long-time buddy Sam is bringing back the game discussion heat with Dice Exploder, a new series where he interviews designers and enthusiasts alike on mechanics they like. I had the pleasure of bringing ‘Change The World’ from Ash Kreider’s The Watch. We touched on the potential of games to create moments of catharsis, why crying while gaming is fun, and other related quibbles. The pod is now available on all platforms if you’re keen on giving it a listen.
And on a final, personal note…
No but for the love of god support the Patreon. Like for realsies. We out here making whole card games with the budget of an IKEA chair without relying on crowdfunding. Plainly speaking, the games are sick. I’m sick too. My wife is in her deathbed and I cannot get instagram dot com to take my money so I can promote the damn geese game. Also check out Hendrik’s work he’s shy but his work slaps he’s like working on some cool stuff besides this that I really dig.
Also yo you guys saw this Vernis thing by Plastiboo? Like woq my copy arrived the other day and if you put a gun to my head I wouldn’t be able to tell you what in the world the book is about but I would desperately plead you to flip through it so we can both be flabbergasted into utterly gibberish awe. I may want to talk about it as well other books I’m reading and being tickled some other time.
